Blair Atholl Golf and Equestrian Estate is situated on Gary Player’s original farm. This property was purchased by Gary Player as he had the vision to create a golf estate on this stunning piece of land.
The land that Blair Atholl was established on was originally owned by a famous Jersey Cow farmer called Sir Rod Douglas. In 1947, King George the Fifth of England came to South Africa. While he was at a function, he got to try some cream from the Douglas farm. Impressed by the cream, King George asked where the cream came from and found out about the Douglas Farm. He then insisted on visiting this farm and ended up meeting Sir Douglas. While at the farm, King George planted an Oak tree outside the main farmhouse. This Oak tree still stands and is situated outside Mr Gary Player’s house.
The Goodman family were the next owners of the farm, and then Mr Gary Player bought the land from them. Mr Player demolished the old farmhouse, and this rubble was used at the practice tee. He spent many an hour practising at this specific tee and thinking up what to do with the land.
Mr Player had always dreamed of developing the farm into an exclusive residential and golfing estate. He knew the land so well that he could create an amazing golf course for all to play on.
Now the Estate has grown and keeps growing, making it a magnificent place to live.
